Sebastian Hilli, one of today’s most prominent young Finnish composers, compares his work Peach to a hot summer’s day and its unreal sensations of tingling pleasure. Dutch-American soprano Katharine Dain performs a song cycle adapted from Kaija Saariaho’s opera Émilie, exploring the thinking of 18th-century woman scientist Émilie du Châtelet. The programme concludes with a varied orchestral suite compiled by Ryan Bancroft from Les Boréades, a ‘lyrical tragedy’ by the greatest master of the late French Baroque, Jean-Philippe Rameau.
