Tapiola Sinfonietta begins the Organ Night and Aria festival summer 2020 with a brilliant programme, repeated at a distinguished Mozart festival in Germany in the same week. The conductor is Reinhard Goebel. The programme is a tribute to Austrian composers of the Classical period, opening with Anton Eberl’s charming Symphony no. 3. This work is a contemporary of Beethoven’s Symphony no. 3, but more than that, the two works were actually premiered at the same concert, and at the time Eberl’s Symphony was judged to be the better of the two.
Eberl’s Symphony is joined by two works by Franz Clement, a composer also known as a virtuoso violinist. His Violin Concerto no. 2 and Variations on a Theme by Mozart for violin and orchestra op. 1 are performed by Tobias Feldmann, a soloist with a number of distinguished competition prizes to his merit.
The programme concludes with two works by Mozart: Adagio and Fugue in C minor for strings and Fantasia in C minor, originally written for piano.
