Recordings

Tapiola Sinfonietta has made around 50 commercial recordings. Its discography grows at a rate of about three to four recordings a year. The orchestra released its first recording in 1989. Tapiola Sinfonietta records primarily for the Finnish record label Ondine and for the Swedish label BIS with conductor Jean-Jacques Kantorow.

The orchestra’s discography includes a recording made with soprano Karita Mattila which has since sold Platinum. The majority of the orchestra’s recordings focus on the works of Mozart and his contemporaries. In addition to the classics, Tapiola Sinfonietta’s range of recordings also features much rarely performed music and new works by living composers. Tapiola Sinfonietta plays a key role in the promotion of Finnish music both in Finland and abroad.

Critics have praised Tapiola Sinfonietta as both a wonderful pops orchestra and a marvellous opera orchestra. The orchestra is, however, most at home in the music of the Viennese classical era. In almost every field Tapiola Sinfonietta’s reputation is formidable.
