The Tapiola Sinfonietta is part of the KULPS! project telling pupils in the Espoo comprehensive schools about culture and sport in their home city. The Tapiola Sinfonietta is putting on KULPS! concerts and workshops for Espoo schoolchildren in years 2 and 7.
KULPS! is part of the city’s free basic education and each year includes 2-3 visits to places of historical interest, museums, art exhibitions, concerts, films or theatres in Espoo. The visits may include either a guided tour, or a workshop or teaching material for class work. The workshops are free and held in the pupils’ own schools.

In spring 2010 the Tapiola Sinfonietta initiated pupils in year 7 into the world of classical music at a DISCOVER CLASSICAL concert.
Last autumn 2009 pupils in year 2 had a chance to take a peek into the orchestra through familiar tunes, The PEEK INTO THE ORCHESTRA concert also introduced the instruments in the orchestra and the pre-concert workshops prepared the pupils for the concert.
In previous years the Tapiola Sinfonietta’s contribution to KULPS! consisted of five Snow Queen concerts and three concerts and workshops starring Jonna Tervomaa and Pekka Kuusisto.
- to promote equality, systematic method and cost effectiveness
- to give pupils a deeper understanding of their home region and to strengthen their Espoo identity
- to increase familiarity with and regard for Espoo’s cultural and sports services
- to help teachers in planning their teaching to meet the objectives of the curriculum
- to provide parents with information on what the city has to offer in the way of library, cultural and sports services
The Tapiola Sinfonietta is committed to the Kulps! objectives as one of the service providers.
